Join Earlene Sanborn in creating a new ongoing book group to choose and discuss Christian books together, starting with Richard Rohr’s Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life (get your own copy).
For this book, we’ll start with 4 Sunday afternoon meetings, 3:30-4:30pm, October 26, November 2 & 16, & December 7, meeting at church (dates are flexible and may be changed by the group). We’ll choose our next book and meeting dates together. Possible authors to explore together: Cynthia Bourgeault, Tara Brach, Anthony de Mello, James Finley, Thich Nhat Hanh, Barbara Holmes, Beverly Lanzetta, John O’Donohue, Christine Valters Painter, Parker Palmer, Richard Rohr, Joyce Rupp, & Howard Thurman.
From Rohr’s book jacket: “In the first half of life, we are naturally and rightly preoccupied with establishing our identity — climbing, achieving, and performing. But those concerns will not serve us as we grow older and begin to embark on a further journey, one that involves challenges, mistakes, loss of control, broader horizons, and necessary suffering that actually shocks us out of our prior comfort zone.” With rare insight, in Falling Upward “Rohr takes us on a journey to give us an understanding of how the heartbreaks, disappointments, and first loves of life are actually stepping stones to the spiritual joys that the second half of life has in store for us.”
Sign up here or reach out to Earlene to join, or just show up.
