Mounds, Moon, & Stars:
The Legacy of Ohio’s Magnificent Earthworks
Presented by the Great Circle Alliance & Hilliard UMC

The exhibition explores the profound celestial and cultural connections embedded in the ancient earthworks of the Hopewell tradition, where sky, land, and spirit align. Inspired by the sacred geometry of the Great Circle, lunar cycles, and star paths, Mounds, Moon, and Stars invites viewers to reflect on the timeless dialogue between human creativity and the cosmos.

The Great Circle Alliance is a local not-for-profit organization committed to honoring and reinterpreting Indigenous legacies through art and education.
Opening Reception & Panel Discussion
Tuesday, September 30, 6:30pm
Join us for a community celebration and panel discussion exploring connections between the exhibition content and Hilliard’s local history. From 6:30-7pm there will be a chance to interact with the exhibit in the social hall, and then at 7pm in the Sanctuary we will have a panel discussion featuring folks from our congregation who have been working to integrate the story of the history of Hilliard with the indigenous history, so that we all might learn from the land we have been given to steward.

Forty miles away is a sophisticated ceremonial site, the largest geometric enclosure in the world and designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 2023. These Mounds, as they’ve been called, are a repository of wisdom understood by the Hopewell era peoples who built them. In this presentation we’ll explore what this legacy is and what it means to us.
