A Note from Stephanie Dailey

wills estate planning giving finance

Dear Friends,

Pastor Jon approached me a couple of months ago and asked if I would be willing to write a Letter of Encouragement for HUMC, more specifically a letter explaining why I felt called to offer my estate planning services to HUMC’s members and church-goers at a discounted rate and then donate 100% of the fees paid to the church.

I was very happy to assist, but I will warn you in advance that I was trained as a lawyer to write as succinctly and concisely as possible, and so many years of writing as a lawyer are hard to shake. In other words, this letter will be short and sweet.

Giving Back

I decided to offer my legal expertise to HUMC because I wanted to give back to a place, a community, that has given so much to me. That’s it.

God didn’t tap me on the shoulder or appear in my dreams and suggest that I use my legal expertise as a way to give back to HUMC, although I think he subtly suggested it. This is an important point to make, because I think in many areas of life people wait for some big, defining, or earth-shattering event to happen in order to take action, but those types of events rarely happen.

I knew that HUMC had a need, a considerable shortfall in the operating budget, and I thought to myself, “How can I help HUMC when HUMC has meant so much to me and my family for so many years now?” Well over twelve years actually, back when my now 14-year-old daughter first started preschool in the 2 1/2 class room. My son joined her at HUMC’s preschool 2 1/2 years later.

“What do I have to offer?” I didn’t have $60,000.00 to donate to HUMC to cover the shortage, but I DO have a skill set, and a useful one, that I could use to help out.

Everyone Needs Estate Planning

Everyone needs estate planning. And if you need it and you can afford it, then how awesome to have your money go directly to HUMC?!

By the way, if you want to learn more about why everyone needs estate planning, come to my next free workshop this Sunday, September 9, at 1:30pm in the social hall. This is my one shameless plug, people. If you decide to hire me to help prepare these documents for you, the discounted fees you pay will be donated back to the church.

Free Workshop

So I challenge all of you reading this to spend some time this week asking yourself how you can give back to such a generous and loving community as HUMC.

Maybe you, too, have a skill set that you can utilize to give back in the same way that I have.

Maybe you have a unique idea that might help HUMC raise the money needed to continue doing good work.

Don’t be shy — speak up and share it. Your idea could make a world of difference.

‘Hope to see you Sunday!

Stephanie
