Update on Pastor Jon’s Role

Update on Pastor Jon’s Role

Beloved Members and Friends of HUMC,

Rev Jon Osmundson, Associate Pastor

We want to share an update regarding Pastor Jon Osmundson’s role and presence in our community as we move through this season of transition.

As many of you know, Jon has faithfully served as our interim pastor between Rev. Larry Brown and Rev. Steve Putka. Our district superintendent, Jim Wilson, picked the right person for this liminal time of transition. We are deeply grateful for the steady leadership, thoughtful preaching, and pastoral care Jon has offered during this important bridge season.

Beginning April 1, Jon shifted to a direct‑hire, part‑time staff member. Because he has accepted a full‑time position elsewhere, his intent has always been to serve HUMC for no more than ten hours a week, with a modest salary reflecting that limited scope. Preaching and preparing for Sunday messages has been his work during his interim time, and that will continue to a lesser extent when Steve comes on board as our full-time pastor.

This direct‑hire arrangement will continue if it is mutually helpful to both Jon and the church. There is no set timeline for when this part‑time support will conclude; that decision will be made collaboratively by our new senior pastor and SPPRC as ministry needs evolve.

We also want to share an update about housing. Jon and his family will continue living on the Mengle Lane property under a month‑to‑month lease. The rent amount is based on the property appraisal and is set so the church breaks even. We are glad to support their stability and continued connection to the community they love.

SPPRC and Rev. Putka look forward to Jon’s ongoing presence among us — in worship, in occasional preaching, and in other ways that serve the needs of our congregation. We are grateful for the gifts he continues to share and for the spirit of collaboration that marks this transition.

Thank you for your faithfulness, your prayers, and your commitment to walking together with grace during this season of change. If you have questions, please reach out to SPPRC.

With gratitude,
