Children’s Ministry
at HUMC
A place where children are
welcomed, known, and loved
just as they are
Welcome — we’re glad you’re here!
At Hilliard United Methodist Church, children are central to our community life. We believe kids are not the “future church” — they are the church right now. Every child carries a spark of God’s love, and our role is to nurture that spark with joy, curiosity, creativity, and deep respect.
Whether your family is brand new or has been here for years, we want you to feel at home. There is a place for your child here — just as they are.
Our Approach
Our Children’s Ministry is shaped by HUMC’s values:
- Love in Action Matters
- You Matter
- Authentic Relationships Matter
These values ground the way we welcome children, support families, and cultivate spiritual growth.
Children learn about God through love in action
Everything we do — from the way we tell stories to the way we care for one another — is rooted in practicing God’s love. Children discover that faith is something we live out with our hands, our hearts, and our relationships.
Every child matters and has full access to God
We believe each child already has a meaningful relationship with the Holy. Their questions, insights, personalities, and ways of moving through the world are sacred. We honor neurodiversity, different learning styles, all family shapes, and all levels of understanding.
Authentic relationships help faith grow
Children thrive when they are surrounded by adults and peers who truly see them. We create welcoming spaces where children can wonder, play, explore, make mistakes, and build community.
We meet children where they are
Spiritually, emotionally, and developmentally, we trust that every child’s pace is holy. We don’t force answers or rush growth — we hold space for curiosity, mystery, and discovery.
Belonging, compassion, and justice are central to faith
We help children practice empathy, recognize the image of God in themselves and others, and learn that faith naturally leads us toward caring for our neighbors and our world.
Safe Sanctuaries
All staff and volunteers complete Safe Sanctuaries Training and background checks to ensure a safe, nurturing environment.
Partnering With Families
Parents and caregivers are the most important spiritual guides in a child’s life. Our work is to support your family by:
- offering spaces where children feel welcomed, cherished, and included
- sharing stories and practices that spark imagination and faith
- modeling empathy, justice, and compassion
- providing developmentally rich programs
- walking with your family through all seasons of life
A Ministry That Grows With Your Child
From infancy through the end of elementary school, our programs accompany children on their spiritual journey.
Our hope is that every child at HUMC knows they are:
- Beloved by God
- Valuable to our community
- Empowered to share love and justice in the world
